Wireless Regulatory Regime
Wireless and RF-enabled products (such as Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth earphones, smart home sensors, RFID readers, and drones) operating in India require Equipment Type Approval (ETA) from the Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) wing of the Ministry of Communications.
Self-Declaration ETA (Saral Sanchar) vs Traditional Approval
Under the progressive reforms introduced via the Saral Sanchar Portal, devices operating strictly within designated de-licensed frequency bands (such as 2.4 GHz, 5.150–5.350 GHz, 5.725–5.875 GHz, and 865–867 MHz) qualify for immediate automated ETA Self-Declaration upon uploading an accredited RF (Radio Frequency) test report.
Essential Documents for WPC ETA:
- Valid RF Test Report from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory (ILAC/NABL).
- Product Technical Datasheet & Frequency Band Specification.
- Importer / Manufacturer IEC Code and GST Registration.
- Authorized Indian Signatory Authorization Letter.
