CPCB Regulatory Update
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has tightened the digital reporting framework for Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners (PIBOs) under Plastic Waste, E-Waste, Battery Waste (BWMR), and Used Oil Management Rules.
Key Highlights of Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR)
Every importer or manufacturer introducing portable, automotive, industrial, or EV batteries into the Indian market must maintain an active CPCB EPR registration and fulfill recycling targets via certified registered recyclers.
Mandatory Steps for PIBOs:
- One-time Central Registration on the CPCB EPR Online Portal.
- Submission of sales volume and material weight per category.
- Purchase of online EPR Recycling Certificates from authenticated recyclers.
- Filing of mandatory Annual Returns by the specified statutory cut-off dates.
